Cleaning and Care

Every Sanayah rug is thoughtfully crafted to bring lasting beauty, warmth, and character to your home. With proper care, your rug can remain a cherished part of your space for many years.

Regular Care

Vacuum your rug regularly using a low-suction setting to remove dust and loose dirt. Avoid using rotating or beater brushes, as they may pull or damage the rug’s fibres and fringes.

For even wear, rotate your rug every three to six months—especially when it is placed in a high-traffic area or exposed to direct sunlight.

Spills & Stains

Accidents happen, but acting quickly can help prevent permanent staining.

  • Gently blot spills with a clean, dry, white cloth.

  • Work from the outer edge of the spill towards the centre.

  • Do not rub or scrub, as this can spread the stain and damage the fibres.

  • Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, and household cleaning products.

  • For stubborn stains, consult a professional rug-cleaning specialist.

Always test any cleaning solution on a small, hidden area before applying it to the entire stain.

Professional Cleaning

We recommend professional cleaning approximately every 12–24 months, depending on the rug’s material, placement, and level of use.

Choose a professional cleaner experienced with handmade and natural-fibre rugs. Always share the rug’s material and construction details before cleaning.

Protect from Sunlight

Long-term exposure to direct sunlight may gradually fade natural colours. Where possible, use curtains or blinds during periods of strong sunlight and rotate your rug regularly to encourage even ageing.

Furniture & Heavy Objects

Use furniture pads underneath heavy items to reduce pressure marks. Avoid dragging furniture across the rug, as this may damage its surface or structure.

Occasionally reposition furniture to prevent permanent indentations.

Loose Fibres & Shedding

Some shedding is natural, particularly with new wool rugs. This will gradually reduce with regular use and gentle vacuuming.

If you notice a loose thread, carefully trim it with scissors. Never pull the thread, as this may damage the rug’s weave.

Rug Pads

We recommend placing a suitable rug pad underneath your rug. A rug pad helps prevent slipping, protects the underside, reduces everyday wear, and provides additional comfort underfoot.

Storage

Before storing your rug, ensure it is completely clean and dry. Roll it with the front side facing inward, wrap it in a breathable protective material, and keep it in a cool, dry place.

Avoid folding the rug, as this may create permanent creases.

A Little Care Goes a Long Way
